Company profile

Helkon was founded by Werner Koenig and Martin Heldmann in 1991. The company was originally concerned with trading in film licences of national and international film productions within German-speaking countries. Film production and the marketing of films on a European and global scale have been developed energetically in order to constitute a second sphere of activity. Due to the enforced international expansion over the past few years, the planned overseas turnover during the current business year will represent some 63% of the total turnover.
This rapid expansion was supported to a considerable degree by the entry of Endemol Entertainment GmbH in July 1998. The latter’s 51% participation provided Helkon with the capital required for its initial expansion. In August 1999 the company was transformed into a joint-stock company and in October 1999 it was successfully launched onto the Neuer Markt. Since March 2000 the board of Helkon Media AG has been strengthened by the appointment of Mark Ramakers, previously in charge of the department Mergers & Acquisitions at Endemol and largely responsible for their participation in Helkon.
During the past business year the international expansion has been strengthened in particular by the acquisition of majority shares in Newmarket, Helkon International Pictures and peppermint and Redbus. In addition, strategic shares in Eye C Music and musicpl@y and cooperations with Eagle Pictures [Italy] and Tri Pictures [Spain] have been negotiated.
