. Erfreuliche Geschäftsentwicklung im 4. Quartal bringt
positives Jahresergebnis 1999
. Auftragseingänge und Auftragsstand mit deutlichen Zuwächsen

Grundlage für zukünftiges Umsatz- und Ertragswachstum des
Unternehmens
Umsatzerlöse
Austria Mikro Systeme International erzielte 1999 Umsatzerlöse
von 87,9 Mio. EUR, im Vergleich zum Vorjahr ein marginaler
Rückgang von 0,5% (1998: 88,3 Mio. EUR). Rückläufige
Umsatzerlöse im ersten Halbjahr konnten durch eine deutliche
Steigerung im zweiten beinahe vollständig kompensiert werden.
Betrachtet nach Geschäftsfeldern konnten vor allem die
Geschäftsfelder Industrie und Kommunikation ihre Anteile an
den gesamten Umsatzerlösen auf 46,1% (Vorjahr: 44,1%) bzw.
39,6% (Vorjahr: 33,9%) erhöhen. Der Anteil des Geschäftsfeldes
Automobil verringerte sich auf 12,9% (Vorjahr: 20,6%). Zu den
wesentlichen Umsatzträgern 1999 zählten ASICs und ASSPs für
Infrarot-Schnittstellen, Energiemessgeräte, Wegfahrsperren,
Lichtschranken sowie Regensensoren und Airbags.
Auftragseingänge und -stand
Positiv entwickelten sich die Auftragseingänge. Diese
erreichten im Gesamtjahr 1999 einen Wert von 96,3 Mio. EUR
(1998: 84,2 Mio. EUR). Im Vergleich zum Vorjahr ein Anstieg um
14,4%. Der Auftragsstand per 31.12.1999 betrug 29,4 Mio. EUR,
eine Verbesserung im Jahresvergleich um 36,7% (31.12.1998:
21,5 Mio. EUR).
Ergebnis
Bedingt durch die gute Geschäftsentwicklung im 4. Quartal
konnte die noch in den ersten neun Monaten bestehende
Verlustsituation vollständig kompensiert werden und ein
positives Jahresergebnis 1999 erreicht werden. Das Ergebnis
der gewöhnlichen Geschäftstätigkeit (EGT) betrug 0,9 Mio. EUR
(1998: 1,6 Mio. EUR). Der Jahresüberschuß erreichte einen Wert
von 0,9 Mio. EUR (1998: -16,7 Mio. EUR).
Forschung und Entwicklung
1999 wurden insgesamt 15 Mio.EUR (1998: 13,4 Mio. EUR) in die
Forschung und Entwicklung neuer Prozesse, Technologien und
Produkte investiert. In Relation zu den Umsatzerlösen betragen
diese Aufwendungen 17%. Damit liegt Austria Mikro Systeme
International über dem internationalen Branchendurchschnitt
von 15%. Dipl. Ing. Dr. Wolfgang Pribyl, Mitglied des
Vorstandes: “Diese Investitionen in die Zukunft sichern das
zukünftige Ertragswachstum und die internationale
Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Austria Mikro Systeme International”.
Vermögens- und Finanzlage
Der Eigenmittelanteil des Unternehmens liegt mit 64,2% deutlich
über dem internationalen Branchenschnitt. “Die solide
Finanzstruktur des Unternehmens stellt eine ausgezeichnete
Basis für die bevorstehende Realisierung der 200-mm-
Fertigungslinie dar”, betont Mag. Johann Stritzelberger,
Mitglied des Vorstandes.
Ausblick
Die führenden Prognoseinstitute für die Halbleiterindustrie
erwarten für das laufende Jahr ein Wachstum des
Halbleitermarktes von 20%. Aufgrund der erfolgreichen
Neustrukturierung und Neupositionierung wird Austria Mikro
Systeme an diesem Aufschwung partizipieren. Hans Jörg
Kaltenbrunner, Vorsitzender des Vorstandes von Austria Mikro
Systeme International: “Durch die weitere Optimierung der
internen Produktionsabläufe, dem Fertigungsstart neuer
Produkte sowie durch die anhaltend positiven Rahmenbedingungen
am Halbleitermarkt erwarten wir für das laufende Jahr eine
weitere Umsatz- und Ergebnisverbesserung”.

Sales Revenues
In 1999, sales revenues of Austria Mikro Systeme International
amounted to EUR 87.9 million, a marginal reduction of 0.5%
compared to the previous year. Declining sales revenues in the
first six months were almost fully compensated by a
significant rise in the second half of 1999. Considered in
terms of market segments, the Industrial and Communications
business units increased their share of total sales revenues
to 46.1% (1998: 44.1%) and 39.6% (1998: 33.9%) respectively.
The automotive business unit’s share dropped to 12.9% (1998:
20.6%). The most important products in 1999 were ASICs and
ASSPs for infrared interfaces, energy measuring systems,
immobilizers, light barriers as well as rain sensors and
airbags.
Order Entries and Order Backlog
Order entries developed positively with an overall amount of
EUR 96.3 million in 1999, which means an increase of 14.4% in
comparison to the previous year.
The order backlog as at 31.12.1999 was EUR 29.5 million, an
improvement on the previous year of 36.7% (31.12.1998: EUR
21.5 million).
Earnings
Due to the satisfactory business development in the 4th
quarter, the loss situation of the first nine months was
completely wiped out and a positive result was achieved for
1999. The result from the ordinary activities was EUR 0.9
million (1998: EUR 1.6 million). The net result amounted to
EUR 0.9 million. (1998: EUR -16.7 million).
Research and Development
In 1999, a total of EUR 15 million (1998: EUR 13.4 million) was
invested into research and development of new processes,
technologies and products. In relation to sales revenues,
these expenses amount to 17%. Austria Mikro Systeme
International thus exceeded the international industry average
of 15%. Wolfgang Pribyl, member of the Managing Board: “These
investments into the future secure Austria Mikro Systeme
Internationals future growth in earnings and its
international competitiveness”.
Net Worth and Financial Position
With 64.2%, the equity share of the Company was well above the
industry average. “The solid financial structure of the
Company is an excellent basis for the realisation of the 200
mm production line”, stresses Johann Stritzelberger, member of
the Managing Board.
Outlook
The leading forecasting institutes for the semiconductor
industry are anticipating growth of the global semiconductor
market of around 20% for the current year. As a result of
successful restructuring and new positioning, Austria Mikro
Systeme International will participate in this upturn. Hans
Jörg Kaltenbrunner, President and CEO of Austria Mikro Systeme
International: “We are expecting further improvements in sales
revenues and earnings for the current year due to further
optimization of internal production processes, the launch of
new products as well as the ongoing favourable business
climate for the semiconductor market”.
