CableLabs Zertifizierung für ELSA Kabelmodem
Zulassung beschleunigt Eintritt in den U.S. Markt mit
High-Speed-Internet-Zugangs-Technologie
Aachen, 29. November 2000 – Die ELSA AG (Neuer Markt:
WKN 507 360), einer der weltweit führenden Anbieter von
Internet-Zugangs- und Computergrafiklösungen, hat heute
für sein Kabelmodem ELSA MicroLink Cable die
CableLabs Zertifizierung erhalten. Diese Zertifizierung
erlaubt ELSA den Zugang zum Schlüsselmarkt USA mit einem
dem DOCSIS Standard entsprechenden Kabelmodem.
ELSA verstärkt damit sein Engagement im U.S.
Datenkommunikations-Markt zeitgleich mit der heute in Los
Angeles beginnenden Western Cable Show. Parallel zum
U.S. Launch wird die CableLabs Zertifizierung ELSA’s
fortlaufende Expansion im europäischen Datenkommuni-
kations-Geschäft beschleunigen.
Nach Dataquest werden in diesem Jahr mehr als 6 Millionen
Kabelmodems weltweit ausgeliefert, während das erwartete
Marktwachstum bei 32% liegt. Vorhergesagt wird ein Anstieg
des weltweiten Marktvolumens auf etwa 10 Millionen Stück in
2002 (Dataquest). Der Anteil des U.S. Markts am weltweiten
Kabelmodem-Markt wird voraussichtlich zunächst weiter bei
50% liegen, während erwartet wird, daß der Anteil des euro-
päischen Markts am weltweiten Kabelmodem-Absatz von mehr
als 14% in diesem Jahr auf über 19% wachsen wird (Dataquest).

Catalyst for entry into U.S. Data Communications
Market with high speed Internet access technology
Aachen, November 29, 2000 – ELSA AG (Neuer Markt: WKN 507 360),
one of the world’s leading vendors of solutions for Internet
access and computer graphics, today announced the achievement
of the important CableLabs certification for its
ELSA MicroLink Cable modem. This certification permits ELSA to
enter the key U.S. market with a cable modem product that
complies with the cable industry approved DOCSIS standard. ELSA
will launch its entry into the U.S. data communications market
at the Western Cable Show, which begins today in Los Angeles.
In parallel with the U.S. launch, the CableLabs certification
will support ELSA’s continuing expansion of its European data
communications business.
According to Dataquest, in 2000 more than 6 million cable
modem units will be shipped worldwide, and 32% growth is
expected for 2001. The worldwide volume is predicted to rise
to approximately 10 million units in 2002 (Dataquest). In the
near term, the U.S. market share is expected to remain over
50% of worldwide cable modem sales, while the European
market share is expected to grow from more than 14% this
year to over 19% of worldwide cable modem sales in 2002
(Dataquest).
