Eurobike: Recent investments exceed expectations
Düsseldorf, September 29, 2000 – After only a few weeks, the most recent
investments of Eurobike AG, Düsseldorf, have fulfilled or even exceeded the
company’s expectations. These investments include the integration of DIFI Dierk
Filmer GmbH, Varel, into the Eurobike Group and the launch of Motopolis.com,
Germany’s first Internet portal for motorcyclists, in which Eurobike holds a
49.9% stake.
The synergies expected to result from the takeover of DIFI in July 2000 have
largely been released. The merger of key functions and the optimization of
purchasing and logistics processes in the Eurobike Group will result in
synergies of DM 5 – 6 million in FY 2000/2001 (ending September 30). “This shows
that DIFI was not just a strategic investment made against the background of the
medium-term consolidation of the German wholesale sector but also makes
financial sense in the short term,” said Herbert Will, Board Chairman of
Eurobike AG. At this year’s INTERMOT, the largest motorcycle trade fair in the
world, retailers also responded extremely positively to thelatest developments
at DIFI.
Motopolis.com GmbH, Essen, which was established earlier this year, has
gradually implemented its three-tier concept comprising an Internet magazine, an
Internet community and e-commerce. The last of the three elements to be launched
in mid-September in the context of the Intermot trade fair in Munich was the
e-commerce platform. Response from various exhibitors was so excellent that the
independent platform will also include third-party products. More than 4,000
clicks per day means that the high expectations of Motopolis.com have been
exceeded right from the start. “Our own highly dynamic business on the Internet
prompted us to invest in Motopolis. The development at Motopolis shows just how
many suppliers may benefit from the excellent prospects offered by the Internet,
if only they target their customers’ requirements effectively,” said Herbert
Will. Motopolis expects to sign up the first members before the end of the year
and to achieve more than 400,000 page impressions.
