The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– 6-month results of Gontard & MetallBank AG show lower income before taxes Frankfurt/Main, 7 May 2001 – Gontard & MetallBank AG, Frankfurt/Main, reported income before taxes of EUR 0.6 million for the first six months of the 2000/2001 business year, i.e. for the period from 1 October 2000 to 31 March 2001. The result of the same period of the previous business year – which had been characterised by a strong rally in the equity markets – was EUR 57.2 million. The result after deduction of taxes was EUR 0.3 million (EUR 31.5 million for the same period of the previous business year). The investment bank for medium- sized companies cited the continued weakness in the capital markets as the reason for its decline in earnings. The distribution of income before taxes among divisions is shown below (figures for the same period of the previous business year in brackets): Investment Banking: EUR 4.2 million (EUR 9.8 million); Trading: EUR -5.9 million (EUR 47.0 million); Asset Management: EUR 2.8 million (EUR 6.8 million); and Corporate Centres: EUR 1.1 million (EUR 1.4 million). Net interest income amounted to EUR 8.5 million, compared to EUR 8.9 million for the same period of the previous business year. Net commission income totalled EUR 20.4 million. The comparable figure for the first half of the previous business year (EUR 25.9 million) had been achieved in the booming market environment of that period. Net trading results showed a loss of EUR 4.9 million. Net trading income for the same period of the previous business year had been EUR 55.3 million. Loan loss provisions amounted to EUR 1.5 million (EUR 7.7 million), while administrative expenses decreased by 13%, to EUR 21.8 million.
