Ende
des ersten Quartals 2000 waren insgesamt rund 44.000 Haushalte “ready for

PrimaCom reports 7% increase in first quarter sales, lower net loss and
progress in network upgrading
MAINZ (FRG), May 18th, 2000 – Die PrimaCom AG (Neuer Markt: security numer
625910 / NASDAQ Symbol: “PCAG”) reports sales first quarter 2000 sales of
27.1 million Euro which is a 6.95% increase over the 25.3 million Euro
recorded for the first quarter 1999.
First quarter 2000 net loss of 7.58 million Euro declined 9.16% from the 8.34
million Euro for the first quarter 1999. The net loss per share improved from
0.48 Euro to 0.38 Euro for the first quarter 2000. The net loss results
primarily from 9,3% higher depreciation and amortisation of 15.4 million Euro
(first quarter 1999 – 14,1 million Euro) and the non cash compensation expense
associated with the company’s stock option plan. These expenses, however, did
not result in a current outflow of cash.
In addition to other measurements the company measures its financial
performance by EBITDA (earnings before extraordinary items, net interest
expense, income taxes and depreciation an amortization) and Adjusted EBITDA
(EBITDA plus non cash compensation expense related to the company stock option
plan).
The Adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter 2000 decreased to 12.6million Euro
compared to 13.6 million Euro for the first quarter 1999 as a result of the
first time inclusion of accruals for GEMA copyright royalty fees and the new
products and service group, that was formed in the second quarter of 1999 to
upgrade the existing CATV networks to two way capable broadband networks and
to develop a full range of broadband products including high speed internet
access and digital television.
PrimaCom continues to invest in the upgrading of its existing cable
infrastructure to interactive hybrid-fibre-coax (HFC) broadband technology and
in the acquisition of new subscribers. During 1999 PrimaCom acquired
approximately 42,806 new cable-tv subscribers and during the first quarter 2000
approximately 18,829 additional subscribers. In addition during the first
quarter 2000 PrimaCom increased its number of high speed internet access
customers by 270 to 420. At the end of the first quarter 2000 PrimaCom had a
total of approximately 44,000 homes upgraded to “ready for service” status to
receive the new services such as high speed internet access and digital-
television.
