T-Online International AG hereby announces a preliminary indication of the
corporate group’s results for the first quarter 2001.
T-Online International AG emphasizes that these results are only initial
results on the basis of current information. Deviations may arise between
these figures and the audited figures, which are planned to be published on
May 23, 2001.
In a challenging market environment T-Online International AG was able to
increase total revenues by 10.1 percent to EUR 280.2 million over the fourth
quarter 2000. As a whole, the group posted a 61.2 percent increase compared
to the same period last year. The newly consolidated companies, especially
Club Internet in France and Ya.com in Spain contributed approximately
8.2 percent to the total revenues.
The access business was an important driver of this revenue growth. Total
access revenue amounted to EUR 241.8 million, which represents an increase
of more than 22 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2000. The outstanding
customer growth on the one hand and the steady increasing usage amongst all
tariffs, especially in our eco tariff, are responsible for this increase.

Issuer’s information/explanation remarks concerning this ad hoc announcement:
The total portal revenue amounted to EUR 38,4 million. If compared to the first
quarter of the previous year portal revenues were nearly doubled. In comparison
to the fourth quarter of 2000, there was a reduction of EUR 17 million which
can be directly attributable to the planned reduction of T-DSL advertising by
Deutsche Telekom.

The first quarter 2001 EBITDA is comparable to the fourth quarter 2000 as the
newly acquired companies were all included in the fourth quarter 2000 for the
first time. The effects of the planned projects DaimlerChrysler, T-Info,
T-Travel and Bild have not been taken into account in the fourth quarter 2000
as well as the first quarter 2001.
As expected and already announced during our full year results, EBITDA for the
first quarter of 2001 totaled EUR – 66.4 million a slight improvement compared
to the EUR -66.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2000. Due to the introduction
of new tariffs as of March 1st, 2001 as well as a tighter cost control in
Germany and in our foreign subsidiaries, T-Online International AG has set the
stage to continuously improve EBITDA going forward. EBITDA was negatively
influenced by our foreign subsidiaries and the narrowband flatrate, the
narrowband flatrate effect will disappear gradually over the quarters during
2001.

The first quarter was also marked by a sustained customer growth. As a whole
T-Online International AG increased its subscriber base by more than 75 percent
from 4.9 million customers at the end of the first quarter of 2000 to
approximately 8.7 million customers as of March 31, 2001. In comparison to the
year end 2000 T-Online gained approximately 700,000 new subscribers in the
first quarter of 2001. T-Online has also seen positive growth in its foreign
subsidiaries with 168,000 new subscribers in the first quarter 2001.
At the end of the first quarter, T-Online recorded approximately 189,000 T-DSL
flat rate customers. Naturally, T-Online has other T-DSL subscribers in other
tariffs especially the eco tariff. The new action tariffs (“night” and “day”)
as well as the surftime tariffs were very well received by the market, with a
better response to the surftime 30 and 60.
