Analytik Jena AG: positive result for the first half of the 2002/2003
– Sales at the level of the previous year despite weak environment
– Export ratio extended to 48%
– Order volume of over EUR 100 million
– Economic climate and currency development represent challenges for the second
half of the year
Analytik Jena AG generated sales of EUR 38.4 million (P.Y. EUR 38.6 million) in
the first half of the 2002/2003 financial year. As a consequence of the
considerable restraint shown by investors, particularly in Germany, stepping up
export activities was the focus of all the company’s operational efforts. The
group’s export ratio currently totals 48% (P.Y. 30%).
The group’s gross margin for the first six months came to 27% and was thus at
the same level as in the previous year (P.Y. 26%). Sales and administrative
expenses were reduced considerably as a result of the cost-cutting measures
introduced at the beginning of the financial year. In particular, the company
has succeeded in increasing sales abroad and reducing costs for sales and
marketing at the same time.
Whereas Analytik Jena AG posted a loss in the first quarter of the financial
year, the company can now report a balanced cumulative result. Group EBIT
totalled EUR 0.3 million (P.Y. EUR 1.1 million). Earnings per share of EUR 0.02
(P.Y. EUR 0.18) result from the net profit for the period of EUR 0.06 million
(P.Y. EUR 0.6 million). The return to the black is due on the one hand to a
relatively stable sales situation in comparison to the previous year and on the
other hand to the results of the cost-cutting program instituted in the autumn
of last year. At the end of the first six months of the year, the Group’s order
volume was EUR 108.6 million (P.Y. EUR 104.4 million). The present economic
situation and the continued weakness of the dollar represent the greatest
challenges to attaining the targets for the year. The management anticipates a
weak third quarter and an economic upswing in the year-end business in the
fourth quarter. Overall, from today’s standpoint, Analytik Jena AG is adhering
to its forecasts for the year as a whole of sales of approx. EUR 80 million and
a pre-tax result of at least EUR 0.5 million. Contact: Thomas Fritsche
