DR. SCHELLER COSMETICS AG Improves Sales and Earnings
8.3% Sales Increase During the First Quarter of 2003
Eislingen/Fils, 05.22.2003 : The steps which DR. SCHELLER COSMETICS AG
implemented at the end of last year to improve its market position and
profitability are beginning to bear fruit in the form of increased sales and
earnings. During the first three months of 2003, net sales rose by EUR 1.59
million from EUR 19.099 million to EUR 20.689 million compared with the same
period of the previous business year. This corresponds to an 8.3% increase.
Operating performance grew by 13% to EUR 22.402 million (2002: EUR 19.831
million) compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The profit margin
improved from approximately 0.14% to approx. 3% during the reference period. Net
income for the first quarter, which amounted to EUR -0.189 million in 2002,
improved as well, increasing to EUR 0.602 million in 2003.
All the brands posted turnover gains during the first quarter of 2003. With a
13% increase to EUR 2.757 million, the Apotheker Scheller – Das Naturkonzept
brand recorded the highest rate of growth in percentage terms and generated
13.3% (2002: 12.8 %) of the company’s total turnover. The causes of this
positive development presumably include the packaging relaunch and the
introduction of several new products. The MANHATTAN (+CLEARFACE) decorative-
cosmetics brand also achieved a double-digit turnover increase thanks to the
launch of new trendy products: sales improved by 10.5% to EUR 13.085 million.
Itemized according to fields of activity, MANHATTAN (+CLEARFACE) thus expanded
its 62.0% share (in 2002) to 63.3%. The durodont tooth and mouth-care brand and
the private labels also continued last year’s positive trend. With sales growing
by slightly less than 1% (reaching EUR 4.84 million), the tooth and mouth-care
segment is also up slightly compared to last year’s performance. It earned 23.4%
(2002: 25.2%) of the total turnover.
EBITDA grew by EUR 1.294 million from EUR 0.669 million last year to EUR 1.963
million in the first three months of 2003. EBIT amounts to EUR 1.132 million
(EUR -0.185 million) and net earnings per share according to DVFA/SG are at EUR
0.10 (EUR 0.004).
