Negative fourth quarter results of 7.5 million euros
Extraordinary expenditures incidence in the fourth quarter
Frankfurt am Main, 16 July 2001 – Due to the continued deterioration in the
capital markets, Gontard & MetallBank AG will make a loss of approximately -7.5
million euros for the nine month period of its business year 2000/2001
(01.10.2000 – 30.06.2001). The fourth quarter report, prepared in accordance
with International Accounting Standards (IAS), will be published as planned on
13 August 2001.
For the current fourth quarter (01.07. to 30.09.2001) the Board of Managing
Directors of Gontard & MetallBank AG expects an additional double digit million
euro burden caused by risk-provisioning for doubtful debts and pre-IPO
shareholdings, counterbalanced by extraordinary income from the sale of
shareholdings, resulting in an extraordinary expense of approximately -8.0
million euros.
To lead the bank, with a shareholders equity of 125 million euros (IAS-Annual
Accounts to 30.09.2000), back into profitability, the Board of Managing
Directors has decided to take the following steps:
1. Develop additional revenues sources, especially in Asset Management, i.e.
through a stronger co-operation with private asset managers.
2. Focus on higher yielding and less volatile transactions in the securities
trading division.
3. Adjust the cost structure to the current market environment.
Notwithstanding the above, the business year 2000/2001 is expected to show a
negative result for Gontard & MetallBank AG.
