JIL SANDER Group’s sales in the first six months from January to June 2002
increased, compared to the prior-year six month period, from euro 66.9 to euro
68.0 million (1.7%). In the first half of 2002 the Group has incurred a loss of
euro 13.6 million. In 2001 JIL SANDER Group had made a loss, which was to be
attributed entirely to the second half of the year, of euro 10.7 million.
Revenues reflect the unfavourable Situation of European and North American
markets. These do not yet permit to generate contribution margins that may be
sufficient to recover the additional costs arising from the high investments in
JS owned shops. The strong increase of sales in Japan since the beginning of
2002 and the higher order inflow for the women’s pre-collection spring/summer
2003, including the newly introduced JIL SANDER Cruise Collection, however, lead
us to expect significantly higher sales in a medium term.
Already for the second half of 2002 losses should be lower than in the first six
months of the year.
