The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Quarterly results in line with expectations Lambda Physik AG generated EUR 25.8 million in sales in the first quarter of its fiscal year 2002 that ends on September 30, 2002. The 22 percent decline compared to the same quarter of 2001 is within expectations. The quarterly loss was EUR 1million, indicating that the cost-cutting measures are taking affect. A positive result is still projected for the year. Bookings have stabilized at EUR 15.3 million. As anticipated, business development reflected the weak economy, thus negatively affecting most of Lambda Physiks key markets and resulting in a noticeable decline in lithography sales as well as in scientific and medical applications. In contrast, Lambda Physik experienced positive growth in the industrial sector achieving record sales of EUR 16.5 million. Early cost-cutting measures have already produced positive results in the quarter under review. The EBIT for the period October to December 2001 is EUR 0.2 million (prior year quarter: EUR 5.5 million). Since the majority of the cost-cutting efforts will not be realized until the coming months, Lambda Physik stands by its annual projections of positive earnings. With a quarterly loss of EUR 1 million, the loss per share amounts to EUR 0.07 after generating earnings per share of EUR 0.20 in the prior year period. Despite the cost-cutting measures, Lambda Physik has increased its expenditures for research and development. At EUR 4.9 million, 19 percent (prior year quarter: 13 percent) of sales were invested, representing a 17 percent increase over the prior year period. The bookings of EUR 15.3 million are awPearly indication for the stabilization of the development.
