The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Lambda Physik’s half-year result in line with expectations Continued positive net income – Upward trend in the Lithography segment Göttingen, April 23, 2003. Lambda Physik AG (SIN 549 427), one of the world’s leading suppliers of pulsed UV lasers, has been able to continue its positive development despite extremely difficult ongoing market conditions in the second quarter of the current Fiscal Year (01.10. 2002 to 30.09.2003). Sales decreased slightly in the first six months by 8% to EUR 47.2 million. Net income however turned out positively at around EUR 0.5 million, after a loss of around EUR 0.5 million was posted for the same period last year. The improvement in earnings was achieved despite overwhelming exceptional nega- tive influences: therefore valuation adjustments amounting to over EUR 5 million for goodwill and stock were performed early in the half-year accounts. A one- off payment amounting to around EUR 4 million had a positive impact. In detail it was possible to more than double EBITDA at EUR 9.4 million after 4.7 million in the first half of last year. EBIT rose from EUR -0.6 million to around EUR 4.9 million. Earnings per share finally improved from EUR -0.04 to EUR 0.04 now. The positive development of the Lithography business continued, achieving an in- crease in sales of 73% to EUR 17 million. However the Industry division with EUR 21.1 million and the Science/Medicine divisions with EUR 9 million recorded a decrease in sales by 32 percent respectively 13 percent.
