General market development continue to impact performance at VOGT electronic
The general economic situation and the weak demand in the electrical engineering
and electronics industry continue to impact performance of VOGT electronic
during the first half of the year. Although VOGT electronic was able to achieve
gains in all business areas by comparison with the first quarter of the ongoing
business year, the recorded sales of EUR 262.5 million were still behind the
previous year’s figures (previous year: EUR 349.0 million). Accordingly,
expectations for sales and earnings for 2001/2002 have been revised. VOGT
electronic recorded the following sales figures: telecommunications EUR 152.8
million (previous year: EUR 227.5 million), automotive electronics EUR 55.3
million (previous year: EUR 56.2 million), industrial electronics EUR 18.6
million (previous year: EUR 22.6 million), miscellaneous consumer products EUR
14.3 million (previous year: EUR 19.7 million), data technology EUR 3.7 million
(previous year: EUR 5.6 million). The results of ordinary business activities
came in at EUR -18.1 million (previous year: EUR 7.0 million). By contrast with
the first quarter of the ongoing business year at EUR -14.3 million, the
negative trend has been stopped. The company generated EBITDA of EUR 7.6 million
(previous year: EUR 32.6 million), and EBIT was recorded at EUR -13.0 million
(previous year: EUR 11.3 million). Investments amounted to EUR 10.0 million
(previous year: EUR 22.2 million), and depreciations totaled EUR 20.6 million
(previous year: EUR 21.3 million). Over the first quarter orders on hand rose by
8.5% and now stand at EUR 400.9 million (previous year: 477.0 million). The
full extent of the light recovery forecasted by the Association of the German
Electrotechnical Industry (ZVEI) for the second half of 2002 will only be
reflected by the new 2002/2003 business year. Against this background VOGT
electronic is revising the forecasts presented to date. To what extent the
losses of the first half year can be compensated for, and whether it will be
possible to achieve performance on par with last year’s figures, depends on how
quickly the market situation develops in a positive direction.
