Forecast Correction for Business Unit VisionWORLD
Berlin, 6 December 2001 – Tremendous interest was shown for the products of
Flow&FluidWORLD (insufflators and pump systems to inflate body cavities) and
Laser WORLD at this year’s Medica international medical trade show.
Nevertheless, VisionWORLD’s unit sales (cameras, light sources, monitors and
video documentation systems for minimally invasive surgery) lagged below
expectations. In light of this, the board of management has corrected its
forecast for the 2001 year as a whole. Now sales are expected to reach at least
EURO 30 million (formerly EURO 33.6 million) with an EBIT of no less than EURO 1
million (formerly EURO 2 million).
The positive developments in the Flow&FluidWORLD sector, which by far is the
largest contributor to the group’s turnover, continued during the first two
months of the fourth quarter. The originally forecast sales were improved and
reflect stable margins at a high level. At the end of November, following the
Medica trade show, this business sector had concluded EURO 11 million in
contracts, of which EURO 2.8 million will be realized in 2002. These contracts
will assure Flow&FluidWORLD’s market leadership for the coming years.
The LaserWORLD growth segment (lasers for treating kidney stones and calculus
and laser beam sources for medicine and industry) has picked up significantly
near the end of the year following delays in market launches. WORLD OF MEDICINE
is striving to have this business sector reach a breakeven point in the coming
year.
The VisionWORLD business sector, acquired from Lemke GmbH at the end of 2000, is
still struggling under integration measures, such as consolidations in its
sales and distribution networks, and from delays in the planned FDA product
approvals. The resulting short-term drop in sales during the current fiscal year
have led to a negative impact on income in this area.
Thanks to its earlier acquisitions, WORLD OF MEDICINE can now provide a complete
product portfolio for minimally invasive surgery. The synergies created will
have an impact in the year 2002, not only in sales, but in earnings as well. As
before, WORLD OF MEDICINE expects at least a 35% increase in sales and an EBIT
margin of no less than 10% for 2002.
