WORLD OF MEDICINE registers 62 % increase in turnover in the first 9 months
Orders on hand of EURO 10.4 million secure planning targets/
The W.O.M. WORLD OF MEDICINE AG registered turnover of EURO 22 million in the
first 9 months, a 62% increase as compared to the same time period in the
previous year (EURO 13.4 million). As was the case in previous years, 66% of
projected sales were thus already achieved before the fourth quarter, which is
traditionally the strongest. In addition, orders on hand increased 13% to EURO
10.4 million as compared to 30th June 2001. Earnings before interest and taxes
(EBIT) came in at EURO 0.45 million after 9 months. The surplus is EURO 45,000
which is equivalent to earnings per share of EURO 0,01.
WORLD OF MEDICINE usually generates 35% of its annual turnover during the fourth
quarter as a result of the strong seasonal influences in medical technology.
For the entire year turnover is expected to increase over 40% from the EURO 23.6
million posted in 2000 to EURO 33.6 million in 2001. EBIT is expected to
increase from EURO 1.7 million in 2000 to some EURO 2 million in 2001.
WORLD OF MEDICINE will retain its overall planning for the business year.

end of ad-hoc-announcement (c)DGAP 13.11.2001
Issuer’s information/explanatory remarks concerning this ad-hoc-announcement:
Earnings were burdened in the third quarter by advance preparations for
marketing and sales of the laser in the USA and the establishment of the
distribution office in India (early November). Costs for taking on new product
sectors also reduced earnings in the period under review. These input-related
expenditures and the traditionally higher income in the fourth quarter will lead
to a significant increase in earnings that will continue into 2002.
Outlook
Following granting of the planned FDA approval for the U100 laser at the end of
October, the key focus in the fourth quarter will be marketing the laser in the
USA.
The market launch for gastroenterology will furthermore begin in Europe and
Asia, following CE-approval of the laser for treating gallstones.
The device will be presented at the World Congress on Endourology in Thailand
from 14th – 17th November. There scientists from Australia, England and the USA
will introduce the positive results from their studies of the laser.
Another milestone is the world’s largest medical congress, Medica, from 21st –
24th November in Duesseldorf.
WORLD OF MEDICINE expects business development to remain positive in 2002.
Turnover and performance are expected to increase well over 30%.
The continued development of the Asian market is another important milestone.
Following the opening of the distribution office in New Delhi WORLD OF MEDICINE
will act as a main sponsor for the congress of the Indian Endoscopy Society in
January. More than 2,000 doctors are expected to attend the event. The opening
of an additional branch office in Asia is also planned. China, with its 1.3
billion inhabitants, is an especially interesting target market .
The market launch of the U100 laser is being stepped up in the USA. The device
and clinical studies conducted by American doctors will be presented to a broad
professional public at the American Urologists Congress (AUA) in Orlando in May.
FDA approval for the second application sector, treatment of gallstones, is
planned by the end of 2002.
The goal of VisionWORLD is to acquire additional large corporate customers for
WORLD OF MEDICINE cameras, light sources, monitors and video documentations
systems. Continual positive growth can be expected in Flow&FluidWORLD as a
result of the sustained surge in demand from large corporate customers.
Capacity is currently being adjusted for the planned growth by means of
expanding the production facility in Ludwigsstadt/Oberfranken. The production
surface should be doubled by the end of the first quarter 2001.
