Olching near Munich, 10 May, 2002. Winter AG, the Neuer Markt-listed chip card
manufacturer turned over 10.5 million euro in the first quarter of fiscal 2002.
This allowed the company to exceed the results of the comparable, previous
quarter. While revenues in the Cards business division were stable at 5.2
million euro, turnover in the Card Services division rose by 340,000 euro to 5.2
million euro as well. These increases were achieved through higher
personalisation services. The IT Security business division’s sales also rose
from 84,000 euro in the first quarter of 2001 to 174,000 euro.
EBIT fell came in at negatively -499,000 euros. In the first quarter of 2001,
EBIT had amounted to 450,000 euros. EBIT in Q1 2002 was particularly hampered by
high production costs in the bank card area. The company plans to book the
respective revenues and earnings contributions in the third and fourth quarters
of this year.
Earnings were additionally influenced by enormous pricing pressure, which
dominates the telecommunication card sector. Earnings for the quarter finally
totalled -443,000 euro.
Against this background, the order for the beginning of this year is especially
positive. The bank card area alone already has available orders for around 10
million euros’ worth of business, in volume terms. This means a doubling of in
this division compared to last year. In total, the order book is now 14.8
million euros – 60% higher than the previous year’s 9.6 million euros.
