Produced by CAMI Music, LLC, the event takes place in Guangzhou (Canton), the host city of the XVI Asian Games, the second largest sporting event in the world next to the Olympics. The festival, created under the artistic directorship of Maestro Long Yu, will become the first high-profile showcase for world-renowned Asian artists in Asia. This extraordinary musical celebration features a constellation of star soloists such as Lang Lang, Yo-Yo Ma, Tan Dun, Midori, Ray Chen, Sarah Chang, and others; internationally acclaimed guest ensembles Seoul Philharmonic under the direction of Maestro Myung-Whun Chung and Philharmonia Taiwan; as well as China's own top orchestras Guangzhou Symphony, Shanghai Symphony and China Philharmonic. 'The music festival and the games embody everything that is great about Asia which is known around the world for its athletic and musical champions,' says festival creator and artistic director Long Yu. 'This musical tour-de-force celebrates unity, friendship and a positive spirit between nations.' The Asian Games, officially known as Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over the continent. The Games are described as the second largest sporting event after the Olympic Games based on the number of participating countries, athletes and competitions. They are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Recognizing the natural synergy between the sports and the arts, the province of Guangdong and the city of Guangzhou made an unprecedented decision to present a classical music festival simultaneously with the Asian Games. The principal festival venue will be the state-of-the-art, 1500-seat facility, Xinghai Concert Hall.
