CKD is currently contacting the owners of Postmasburg and Middelwater in order to negotiate their compensation for drilling. 'We are very happy with these latest developments in our projects. With the relevant permits signed and mineral rights granted, our next step is to determine if there are sufficient gravels to warrant a bulk sample,' commented James Lehman, CEO of Central Kimberley Diamonds. The Middelwater project runs along the western bank of the Orange River and hosts extensive middle-level river terrace gravels, between 40 and 60 meters above the present-day river. CKD expects a potential for approximately 20 million tonnes of river gravel occurring on the Middelwater farm. The Postmasburg project is located 20 km southwest of Postmasburg. An extensive gravel deposit crops out over the project area and is recorded on the relevant geology map as an upper level river terrace. 'We believe that there is a potential for approximately 30 million tonnes of river gravel on this area. The gravel ridge might also represent an inverted palaeo-channel, and thus be similar in this respect to our Plooysburg project', explains James Lehmann further. Meanwhile in Plooysburg, the flagship project of CKD, the diamond recovery plant is almost set up, the project is currently experiencing minor delays due to the recent heavy rain in the area. 'The rain here has been unusually hard for the area and has resulted in our ramps leading to and from the pits becoming to slippery to work on. We have set the relevant measures to drain the excess rain water and we expect that work on the Plooysburg project will continue in the next few days', Lehman concluded.
