The firm announced today that the 1st project phase has been successfully completed and 80,000 tonnes of rock have been removed, exposing the ancient river. The company is now at a 10 meter depth and has reached the target gravel layers. This depth level in the gravel layers is the optimal environment to economically reap the benefits from diamond depositories. With this phase complete CKD will now start the analysis of over 15,000 tonnes of stockpiled gravel layers. Currently CEJ Diamonds, a company situated in Kimberly, is constructing a diamond recovery plant for Central Kimberly Diamonds so that the analysis can be carried out. This plant will be utilised to help out the current exploration so that the exact diamond content of the stockpiled gravel can be determined. 'We are on course with the project' clarified James Lehman, CEO of Central Kimberley Diamonds. 'Despite some technical and logistical set backs one can simply not avoid working in the South African region, it is important to understand that we have successfully completed the most important phase in the project', continued James Lehman. 'The most challenging obstacle that we have encountered has been the toughness of the hard rock (also known as calcrete) which has proven to be more resilient than our original expectations. We tried to break through the rock with our current on site measures however it has been recognized that the problems can only be solved through the use of controlled explosive blasting. Our firm has also been actively implementing cost saving measures and improving efficiency alongside our standard operations. We have purchased a 50 ton Doogan excavator so that in the future we can work actively and more independently from the project. We aim to acquire further equipment such as trucks so that by the end of 2007 we will be in the position to take samples from the third pit using also our own equipment', concluded James Lehman. Central Kimberley Diamonds will publish regular status update regarding the developments of the project on the Central Kimberly diamonds website at www.centralkimberleydiamonds.com in the publications sections under reports.
