CONTACT CerMed International to Open Vermont R&D Facility Monterey, CA – May 15, 2011 – CerMed International, Inc. based in Monterey, CA and a global company focused on women's health, announces the establishment of an R&D facility located in Essex Junction, Vermont. The laboratory will focus initially on finalizing the development of a point-of-care screening system for cervical cancer that is designed to replace the nearly 160 million Pap smears conducted each year worldwide. 'We believe our new platform will significantly improve upon the current standard of cervical cancer screening, and in the future can be directed toward additional rapid testing for other infectious or sexually transmitted diseases', said CerMed's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Paul Vichi, who will be directing operations at the facility. In conjunction with the new lab, CerMed is pleased to announce that it has hired Research Scientist Dr. Jonathan Rud, Ph.D., who will focus on protocol development and testing of the redesigned POC platform. Dr. Rud is a former Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Medicine/Immunology at the University of Vermont, and a graduate from the University of Massachusetts' department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. His previous efforts were directed at the mammalian response to influenza virus and regulation of cell signaling important in apoptosis, a critical process for controlling tumor development. Dr Rud adds to CerMed's talents in the areas of immunology and molecular biology; he will play an important role in the product development process.
