Civil society organization ‘Green Patrol’: Green patrol registered the atmosphere fluctuation of pollutants from Norway to Russia
Civil society organization ‘Green Patrol’ / Key word(s): Miscellaneous Murmansk, August 14, 2013 Today’s round table that has gathered representatives of state power, social bodies and major industrial enterprises of the Murmansk region, was the place for the Russian social agency Green patrol to make a show-down of the results of a complex ecologic expedition ’37th meridian. Murmansk region’. Functionaries of Russian weather service, Ministry of natural resources and ecology of Murmansk region and Atmosphera scientific research institute (Saint-Petersburg), WWF, Bellona were invited to take part in the discussion. The expedition was aimed at the analyses of the quality of atmosphere air at the Russian-Norwegian border, 4 km from the municipal settlement Nickel. According to Andrey Naguibin, chairman of the board of Green patrol, ‘during the expedition we registered the fact of atmosphere fluctuations of pollutants from Norway to Russian territory. Although the pollutants concentration were relatively small (0.2-0.3 of the maximum permissible value), the very fact of the Russian territory pollution by the neighbors has documental evidence. At the same time, we fixed a reverse movement of pollutants from Russia to Norway. The pollutants concentration is also within regular readings. We are glad that our conclusions match the evaluations of Atmosphera, serious scientific institution. According to their information, Murmansk region receives from Norway 2.4 times more nitrogen compounds, than Norway from Murmansk region. The relation with Finland is 2.8 times more. 74% of nitric substances falling down in Murmansk region are of foreign origin. Numerically that comprehends 393 Norwegian tons and even more tons from Finland. We may affirm that trans-border dislocation is responsible for 45% of total pollution in Murmansk region. Thus, emissions from Poland, Finland, Germany and Norway are the most hazardous for the atmosphere of the region. In this context, we repeatedly appeal to Norwegian authorities to organize joint social ecological monitoring at their territory’. The participants of the round-table also mentioned the fact of contamination of the natural reserve river Paz with polymeric tissues brought to Russia from Finnish territory.
