Automotive supplier uses content management system of Gauss to unify portal
platform and workflow
New platform concept was launched in April 2003
HAMBURG, April 22, 2003. The automotive supplier Hella KG Hueck & Co selects
VIP Enterprise by Gauss (Prime Standard: GSO, ISIN DE 0005074603). The
specialist for automotive lighting and electronics has been using the Gauss
enterprise content management solution (ECM) for three years to unify its portal
platform and to make workflows more efficient. After two years of use, the
platform concept was revised on the basis of the experience gathered and
launched in April 2003.
The Gauss solution’s features such as intelligent and stable release mechanisms
on the basis of an elaborate rights management and the available search
functions (meta search, full-text search, semantic search) were the main reasons
for Hella’s decision in favor of Gauss in 2000. Another advantage of the system
is that it is manufacturer-independent and can be easily integrated. The long-
time Gauss partner Brockhaus Software & Consulting AG implemented the software.
Hella plans to expand the system on an international scale in 2003.
Hella has been using Internet, intranet, and extranet for a long time to support
enterprise-wide business processes, customer contacts, and internal
communication. In 2000, Hella had to make a decision whether to continue with a
decentralized solution or to set up a central platform.
A uniform portal with a more efficient workflow was designed to help simplify
and accelerate the enterprise-wide processes. Thus, Hella performed a benchmark
test comparing different content management systems (CMS). Decisive aspects
included content archiving and versioning, consistency, link management,
management of meta information, release mechanisms, and available search
functions. The Gauss solution came out as the winner of this test.
Based on this platform, the Internet and intranet as well as the extranet
application Hella Aftermarket Club (AMC) – which offers the latest product
information and marketing services for automotive components dealers – have been
implemented. In the AMC, layout and content are strictly separated. Thus, the
training efforts for international Hella sales offices were very low. In a
train-the-trainer program, the developers introduced the system to the
“instructors”, who passed their knowledge on to their colleagues.
Brockhaus Software & Consulting AG supported Hella with its extensive
experience. Both companies closely cooperated in the fields of training,
software and hardware know-how, evaluation and integration of the software. The
successful launch of the platform concept was proof of the excellent cooperation
of the three companies Hella, Brockhaus, and Gauss.
“When laying out the architecture, we considered it very important to separate
the individual components. This way, we increased scalability, performance, and
availability, and at the same time reduced costs,” says Andreas Liebeck, manager
competence center portal/groupware at Hella KG Hueck & Co.
