Fulda (Hesse, Germany), May 13, 2005. For private hospital company HELIOS
Kliniken GmbH, fiscal year 2004 was again labeled by strong growth. Due to the
acquisition of the Schwerin hospitals and the Berlin HELIOS Klinikum Emil von
Behring, revenue rose by 28.3 percent up to Euro 1,161.4 million. The group-
wide number of inpatient cases increased by 26.5 percent up to 334,074. The
average length of stay was reduced to 7.2 days (2003: 7.9) as a result of
optimized workflows and an increase in quality.
In spite of stagnating hospital budgets in Germany and raising costs, the
Group in 2004 generated anew a good result of Euro 65.6 million (2003: Euro
108.4 million including amortization of goodwill and reversal of badwill of
Euro 60.9 million). Our growth and investments in 2004 were financed entirely
from cash flow. The company still has a positive net cash position.
Top-level medicine
Due to the acquisition of the Schwerin hospitals, as the Group’s fourth
maximum-care hospital, HELIOS strengthened its position in top-level medicine.
The privatization of the 1,400 beds hospital in Schwerin with its 50,000
inpatient cases was Germany’s largest hospital privatization project so far.
Furthermore, the North Rhine-Westphalian HELIOS Klinikum Wuppertal was
appointed university hospital by the private university of Witten/Herdecke.
The extent of teachings, science and research is intended to be broadened,
here. In fiscal year 2004, HELIOS also started Europe’s biggest privately
financed new hospital building in Berlin-Buch.
From now on, the Annual Report 2004 is available under
http://www.helios-kliniken.de .
With over EUR 1.2 billion revenue, HELIOS Kliniken GmbH is one of the major
hospital companies in Germany. At this time, the company owns 25 hospitals
with a capacity of 9,500 beds, including four hospitals for maximum care in
Erfurt, Berlin, Wuppertal and Schwerin. 18,000 employees perform 330,000
stationary patient treatments p.a.
