S&T continues SOFIA project for Slovak Ministry of Education
SAP-based Financial Information System for Universities in Slovakia
February 28, 2006. Bratislava – Žilina – Košice – Slovakia. S&T System
Integration & Technology Distribution AG is implementing and maintaining an
SAP-based centralized financial information system for all state
universities in Slovakia as part of the Slovak education ministry’s SOFIA
project.
The aim of the project is to provide the ministry and the universities
themselves with a powerful and effective tool for the universities’
financial management and budgeting. The information system was implemented
at two universities during a pilot phase and supports all processes
involved in these areas such as financial accounting, budget management,
human resources accounting, and controlling.
The introduction of the mySAP Business Suite solution will take place in
several stages. The pilot phase included the design of the system, delivery
of the hardware and software to a central location and initial
implementation at two universities – in Bratislava and Žilina. The actual
project started in early 2006 when the solution was introduced at four
additional universities and from July 2006 onward it will significantly
simplify financial, logistical and human resources management for more than
2,000 users at six universities nationwide. Although the financial
information system builds upon a solution developed during the pilot phase,
the special needs and requirements of each individual institution were
taken into consideration and 20 distinctive solutions provided.
The roll-out to all state universities in Slovakia (in total 20) will be
completed by the end of 2007. The project is being carried out by a
consortium consisting of S&T / Varias and Siemens Business Services (SBS).
Implementation and maintenance costs for the actual project phase will
amount to approximately EUR 5.4 million. Once all the state universities
have joined the program the total costs of the SOFIA projects will run to
approximately EUR 15 million. The members of the consortium have agreed to
maintain confidentiality about the distribution of the project volume.
‘Our recent acquisition Varias has once again been able to demonstrate its
expertise in leading-edge SAP solutions for the public sector with this
project. We have already developed similar solutions for universities in
the Czech Republic’, said Christian Rosner, CEO of S&T AG.
