HamaTech AG: Interim Report Q1/2008
HamaTech AG / Release of an announcement according to Article 37x of the WpHG [the German Securities Trading Act] Interim report according to Article 37x of the WpHG, transmitted by DGAP - a company of EquityStory AG. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Interim Report Q1/2008 Dear shareholders! In the course of the extraordinary shareholders' meeting of HamaTech on December 17, 2007, the merger of the company to the SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG was resolved. The entry of the merger into the Commercial Register is still pending due to legal challenges filed by shareholders. The Recordable Optical Disc division of HamaTech is faced with additional challenges in 2008 as well. Although 8 CD R/DVD R replication lines were sold in the 1st quarter 2008, margins still continued to decline. On the basis of the current machine generation, significant reductions in production costs are not possible anymore. Therefore we decided to develop and manufacture a new, considerably simplified machine named STREAMLINE III on the basis of the proven SINGULUS SPACELINE II at SINGULUS Manufacturing GUANGZHOU in China. The central SPACELINE II module will still be produced in Kahl am Main. The machine is intended for distribution in the Chinese market for the time being. HamaTech APE is established in the semi-conductor sector with its excellent products. The company developed favorably in the past year. The focus in the past couple of months was set on the development of a high temperature hotplate for the removal of crystals (haze), which emerge from the glass substrate during the exposure with ultraviolet light and which without cleaning make the photo masks unusable. The business division works on the development of a machine for the cleaning of photo masks of the future lithograph technology with extremely short-wave ultraviolet light (EUV). Order intake and backlog In the segment Optical Disc orders in the amount of EUR 4.2 million (Q1/07: EUR 5.2 million) were recorded. The segment Advanced Process Equipment (APE) reported orders in the first quarter 2008 totaling EUR 4.6 million (Q1/07: EUR 7.6 million). Overall, the order intake in the first quarter 2008 amounted to EUR 8.8 million (Q1/07: EUR 12.8 million). As of March 31, 2008 the order backlog amounted to EUR 14.4 million (as of March 31, 2007: EUR 29.2 million), thereof EUR 5.5 million in the Optical Disc division and EUR 8.9 million in the APE segment. Sales and earnings trend Sales in the first three months of the current business year amounted to EUR 1.0 million (previous year: EUR 7.6 million). The business division Optical Disc contributed EUR 0.4 million (Q1/07: EUR 6.3 million) and the Advanced Process Equipment segment EUR 0.6 million (Q1/07: EUR 1.3 million). Due to the low level of sales the earnings before taxes (EBT) were negative at EUR -2.4 million. During the same period one year ago a loss before taxes amounting to EUR 1.0 million was incurred. The business division Optical Disc posted earnings before taxes of EUR -0.5 million in the past first quarter; in the same period one year ago a profit of EUR 0.1 million was reported. The business division Advanced Process Equipment ended the first quarter 2008 with a loss of EUR 1.9 million (previous year: EUR -1.1 million).in million EUR Q1 2008 Q1 2007 Order intake 8,8 12,8 Sales 1,0 7,6 Earnings before taxes -2,4 -1,0 Employees as of March 31 114 161Financial position as of March 31, 2008 As of March 31, 2008 the balance sheet total amounted to EUR 76.7 million and hence declined by EUR 2.2 million compared with December 31, 2007 (EUR 78.9 million). The net liquidity decreased to EUR 1.5 million compared with EUR 2.2 million as per December 31, 2007. Development of headcount In the segment Advanced Process Equipment 97 people were employed worldwide as of March 31, 2008. Therefore, the number of employees was unchanged compared with the same quarter one year ago. As of the reporting date the division Optical Disc employed 17 people. The once again reduced headcount compared with the previous year (64 employees as of March 31, 2007) is due to the completion of the reduction in headcount in connection with the relocation to Kahl am Main during the course of the year 2007. Outlook We refer to the outlook of the parent company SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES. The strength of SINGULUS is the unique position in the market for machines for the production of optical storage media. We expect a long-lasting growth for equipment for the production of Blu-ray Discs. SINGULUS has a unique market position worldwide in the Blu-ray Disc production technology. We forecast growth in our core activities Optical Disc again in the coming years. With STANGL as a starting point, we will strengthen our market position in equipment for the solar cell production in the coming years to establish an additional significant business division next to Optical Disc. Moreover, based on our know-how in the area of surface coating, a machine for the application of anti-reflective coatings and passivation is scheduled to be delivered from 2009. This will continue to strengthen our position in the solar market. We are pursuing interesting projects in the Advanced Process Equipment division, which make us cautiously optimistic for the remainder of the year. The members of the Executive Board are convinced that the two core business divisions Optical Disc and Solar form an attractive combination for the new positioning of the SINGULUS Group and hence look optimistically into the future with respect to the development of the company.
