Bericht 1. Quartal 2000

Report on the first quarter of 2000
The first quarter of 2000 brought positive developments for the AHT Group at the
parent company in Austria and at the bottle cooler subsidiary Refco S.A. in
Guatemala, while a negative business trend was seen at KWR Produktions- und
Vertriebs Gesellschaft in Germany, in which we acquired a 51% stake last year.
Turnover of the AHT Group remained almost steady at ATS 372.979 million
(Eur 27.11 m) (compared to ATS 381.238 million Eur 27.71 m in the first
quarter of 1999, down 2.2%).The better profit of the parent company and the
positive result of Refco could not compensate the negative result of KWR and
therefore net profit after minority interests showed – 19,7 %.
Outlook
The situation in AHT’s markets for commercial chilling and freezing, notably
in Western Europe, remains shaped by a combination of hesitant investment on
the demand side and tough competition between vendors. AHT has taken a number
of steps to gain the ascendancy in these changed markets. We have brought to
market both a new generation of ice-cream cabinets and an entirely new crop
of supermarket equipment; we have begun production of ice-cream cabinets in
Guatemala and thus acquired global presence; and we have redoubled our
distribution activities through the newly-established sales office for Western
Europe in Germany.
AHT expects these measures and the recently initiated reorganisation at KWR to
bear fruit from the fourth quarter of 2000, which would conclude the present
process of consolidation.
