First Six Months of 2000: GARANT Group Result Up Again
Düsseldorf, 31 August 2000 – In the first half of 2000, GARANT SCHUH + MODE AG,
which is listed on SMAX, again continued its successful streak and further
expanded its position as Europe’s largest group of independent specialised shoe
and leather goods retailers.
In the first six months of 2000, the turnover – the “central regulation
turnover” generated by the specialised retailers on the basis of the accounts
settled by the headquarters – rose DM 66.3 million or 7.4 % from the same period
last year to DM 963.3 million, with most of this increase coming from outside
Germany. The figure for Germany increased 1.5 % from the previous year’s
DM 385.7 million to reach DM 391.5 million. In the other European countries in
which the GARANT Group has specialised retailers, turnover was up 11.9 % from
DM 511.2 million to DM 571.8 million.
Overall, 40.7 % (compared to 43 % in the same period last year) of turnover
stemmed from business in Germany and 59.3 % (compared to 57 % in the same period
last year) from the rest of Europe.
In the first six months of 2000, sales revenues came to DM 98.2 million, up 5.2%
on the DM 93.4 million achieved in the first half of 1999. Profit before tax, up
2.9 % to DM 2.6 million, developed equally as positively as the annual net
profit, which rose 8.4 % to DM 0.9 million. Correspondingly, the DVFA result per
share jumped 7.5 % to DM 2.45.
In view of the tax relief right at the beginning of the year and the tax reform
agreed in July plus favourable economic forecasts, private consumption, which
has remained low, is also expected to revive in Germany. In addition, with
consumption and retail business continuing to be brisk and the increasing
willingness to buy on the part of consumers in the other European countries, the
GARANT Group expects to reach its planned 7 % turnover growth for the 2000
business year and an equal increase in all revenue components.
