Generali Holding Vienna AG
Ad hoc-Service: Generali Holding Vienna english
Ad hoc announcement transmitted by DGAP.
The issuer has the sole responsibility of this announcement.
——————————————————————————–
Following a record result in 1999, the Generali Holding Vienna Group suffered a
profit downturn in 2000, with full-year net earnings falling from Sch 815.4 mil-
lion/EUR 59.3 million to Sch 305.8 million/EUR 22.2 million. Per-share earnings
were also substantially down on the previous year’s figure of EUR 7.3 at EUR
2.6.
Nonetheless, it proved possible to leave the dividend unchanged at the previous
year’s raised level of EUR 1.82, and other key gauges of success also make it
clear that setbacks during 2000 can justifiably be seen as purely temporary.
For in-stance, the year-on-year growth of consolidated premium income
accelerated to 6%, and premium income in the group’s seven markets – Austria,
Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania – totalled
Sch 32.0 bil-lion/EUR 2.3 billion.
Moreover, the group’s consolidated investments grew by 1.4% to Sch 108.8 bil-
lion/EUR 7.9 billion, and current investment income increased by 2.9% on the
year to Sch 6.8 billion/EUR 495.1 million.
The group’s premium income is expected to grow by almost 7% to roughly Sch 34
billion/EUR 2.47 million this year. Its claims and benefits record should take a
turn for the better after an unusually difficult year in 2000. The group’s
underwriting result is expected to improve to its 1999 level with a loss of
approximately Sch 1 billion/EUR 73 million. Following a decline in 2000, there
should also be a marked advance in consolidated full-year net earnings.
We expect to declare the same dividend for 2001 as for last year.
Günter Neumann, the group’s Financial Director of many years’ standing, has an-
nounced his intention to withdraw from active professional life in autumn 2001.
The Supervisory and Managing Boards of Generali Holding Vienna AG have accepted
his personal decision with the utmost regret. Walter Steidl, a member of the
holding company’s Managing Board since 1994, has been chosen to succeed him as
Financial Director.
