Vermarktung in allen Vertriebskanälen Früchte. Während die
Möbelbranche insgesamt rund 8 % an Umsatz einbüßte, nahm der
Konzernumsatz von K&M Möbel um gut 5 % auf 356,3 Mio. DM
(Vorjahr 339,1 Mio.
500 Mio. DM und einem überproportionalem Ergebnisanstieg
gerechnet.
Kirchlengern, 4. November 1999
Uptrend for K&M Möbel in the 3rd quarter
Earnings shortfall made good in part / Faster pace of growth
despite weaker industry trend / Strong expansion of market
share in the specialist furniture trade
K&M Möbel AG, Kirchlengern, resumed its uptrend in the third
quarter of the business year 1999. Compared to the
unsatisfactory second quarter, the operating result (EBIT)
increased by 21% to DM 4.5 million. The decisive contribution
came from a clear improvement in the flat-packed furniture
segment, which almost broke even as of September 30, 1999 after
a loss incurred in the first half of the year. Specific
measures relating to both operations and staff brought about
the turnaround in this division.
Thanks to the uptrend in the third quarter, K&M, manufacturer
of assembled kitchens and flat-packed furniture, partly
recouped the earnings shortfall which had occurred in
comparison to the previous year. In the first nine months, the
net income (after minorities) was DM 7.7 million, down 20% from
the figure achieved during the same period last year (DM 9.7
million); in the first half of 1999, the shortfall had been as
large as 30%. Net earnings as a percentage of sales, at 2.2%
(after minorities) continued to clearly exceed the industry
average.
The improvement in earnings was achieved against a background
of a further increase in the placing volume; as of September
30th, individual placements of furniture series already
exceeded the figure for the whole of the previous year. The
expansion of the exhibition space in the specialist trade is an
excellent basis for higher sales and earnings in subsequent
years, but resulted in extraordinary charges in the current
year due to product launch costs and introductory rebates as is
customary in the industry.
The marketing concept already achieved results in all the
distribution channels in the first nine months of 1999. While
the furniture industry as a whole suffered a drop in sales of
some 8%, the K&M Möbel Group increased its sales by well over
5% to DM 356.3 million (previous year: DM 339.1 million). Thus
a higher growth rate was achieved than during the first half of
the year. Sales in the flat-packed furniture segment were up
6.7%, while assembled furniture gained 4.5%. The decisive
factor contributing to this growth was the capturing of new
market shares with the five largest purchasing associations of
the specialist furniture trade, where sales increased by 34%.
The fourth quarter is expected to bring a confirmation of the
uptrend. For the whole of 1999, K&M Möbel continues to expect
the net income (after minorities) to fall short of the previous
year’s figure by not more than 10% despite the placing and
acquisition outlay. Annual sales are projected to exceed the
previous year’s figure of DM 458 million by around 5%. In view
of the succesful placements, a sales volume of more than DM 500
million and a greater rise in earnings are expected for the
business year 2000.
