——————————————————————————
WWL Internet AG’s growth continued unabated in Q2 2000 Revenues increased by
240% to EUR 4,315 thousand (TEUR) compared to Q2 1999 and the number of
employees by 210% to 310 / Revenues per employee will already nearly double
to TEUR 120 in 2001 / Despite the startup costs associated with setting up
numerous new locations, the net loss per share per IAS of EUR 0.09 in Q2 1999
and EUR 0.19 in Q1 2000 increased only slightly to 0.20 EUR in Q2 2000 /
Break-even is still targeted for 2000 (wwl vision2market) and 2001 (consolidated
group)
(Nuremberg. 8/16/2000) WWL Internet AG’s revenues reached TEUR 4,315 in the
second quarter of 2000. Compared to the second quarter of 1999, revenues grew by
240%; compared to the first quarter of 2000, they grew by 26%. In the second
quarter of 2000, wwl interactive contributed 38% of revenues (TEUR 1.619), wwl
network contributed 44% (TEUR 1,906), wwl services contributed 17% (TEUR 718)
and wwl products contributed 1% (TEUR 54). The segment wwl services consists of
network-related services.
Material expenses increased to TEUR 1,653 in the second quarter of 2000. Due to
the rapid expansion in the number of employees – from 244 to 310 in the second
quarter of 2000, personnel expenses grew to TEUR 3,336. Since new employees
generally need from two to three months to generate a noticeable amount of
revenues, the personnel expenses ratio increased from 75% in the first quarter
of 2000 to 77% in the second quarter of 2000. This ratio is still 4 percentage
points better – in other words lower – than the personnel expenses ratio at the
end of the second quarter of 1999.
Annualized revenues per employees reached EUR 62,300 in the second quarter of
2000, an increase over both the second quarter of 1999 (EUR 53,500) and the
first quarter of 2000 (EUR 59,700). In the year 2001, when the build-up of the
network of locations has been completed, WWL intends to nearly double the
revenues-per-employee ratio to EUR 120,000. In 1997 and 1998, before the
expansion course began, the average revenues per employee already totaled more
than EUR 97,000.
Total depreciation and amortization expenses of TEUR 515 included TEUR 252 of
goodwill amortization. Financial earnings improved to TEUR 104 in the second
quarter of 2000.
Revenues, EBITDA, EBIT and the consolidated net loss in the second quarter of
2000 and comparison figures from Q1 2000 and Q2 1999 are as follows:
Revenues:
Q2 2000: TEUR 4,315
Q1 2000: TEUR 3,418
Q2 1999: TEUR 1,270
EBITDA:
Q2 2000: TEUR -2,213
Q1 2000: TEUR -1,647
Q2 1999: TEUR -569
EBIT:
Q2 2000: TEUR -2,728
Q1 2000: TEUR -2,126
Q2 1999: TEUR -776
Consolidated net loss:
Q2 2000: TEUR -1,520
Q1 2000: TEUR -1,383
Q2 1999: TEUR -439
The consolidated net loss increased from TEUR 439 in the second quarter of 1999
to TEUR 1,520 in the second quarter of 2000, which was planned and attributed to
the high start-up costs of new locations. Compared to the first quarter of 2000,
which showed a consolidated net loss of TEUR 1,383, the cumulative net loss
increased by only TEUR 137. Earnings per share per IAS amounted to EUR – 0.20 in
the second quarter of 2000 after EUR – 0.19 in the first quarter of 2000 and
EUR – 0.09 in the second quarter of 1999.
Considering WWL’s current strong expansion – and the fact that it has not nearly
reached its full potential capacity – management is completely satisfied with
the second quarter of 2000’s revenues and earnings. Considering the
traditionally strong second half of the year, we are confident of reaching our
predicted break-even point then. We plan on WWL Internet AG’s “old structure”
(in the future: wwl vision2market (v2m)) to reach the break-even point this
year; the consolidated group including its new companies – wwl vision2product,
wwl vision2capital and trendscouts.com – will break even in 2001.
