Improved trend in load factor to end August,
but no forecast on future traffic development possible
In August 2001, the airlines of the Austrian Airlines Group (Austrian Airlines,
Lauda Air, Tyrolean Airways and Rheintalflug) carried more than 913,000
passengers, a fall of around 1.5 % compared with the same month the previous
year. The number of passengers carried on scheduled services rose by 4.1 %. In
the face of a 1.3 % rise in availability (passenger seat kilometers), traffic
performance was increased by 3.8 %, and with it the load factor by 1.9
percentage points to 77.3 %.
The cumulative traffic performance figures for the first eight months of 2001
demonstrates a continuing positive trend, with the number of passengers
increasing by 2.9 %. While the passenger load factor on scheduled serviced was
increased by 2.5 percentage points to reach 70.5 %, the decline in global
economic activity very quickly became evident in freight traffic, as a result of
which the load factor fell to 64.7 %.
As a result of the tragic events of 11 September and the current political
situation no forecast on future traffic development is possible.
