Lambda Physik confirms guidance for 2002, bookings further improved Ad-hoc-announcement transmitted by DGAP. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Lambda Physik AG today announced sales of EUR 21.1 million for the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2002 (ending September 30, 2002), a decline of approximately 17% compared to the average of the first two quarters of 2002. This is primarily due to the fact that the shipment of several high-priced laser systems was pushed out to the fourth quarter. Compared to the third quarter of 2001, in which sales amounted to EUR 32 million, a decline of 34% was recorded. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were negative at minus EUR 0.1 million compared to a positive EBIT of EUR 3.2 million in the same period of last year. Successful cost-cutting measures enabled the company to limit the net loss at EUR 0.3 million despite below-average quarterly sales and a continued weakness of the lithography and medical markets. The positive trend in bookings continued. At EUR 29.4 million, Lambda Physik achieved an increase of 31% compared to the previous quarter. The order backlog was up for the first time since the beginning of the current fiscal year, reaching EUR 45.5 million as of June 30, 2002. Lambda Physik generated sales of EUR 72.2 million in the first nine month of the current fiscal year. This represents a decline of approximately 30% compared to last year’s figure of EUR 103.6 million. The EBIT for the nine-month period came in at EUR 0.4 million compared to EUR 14.7 million in the same period of last year. The net loss for the first nine months of the current fiscal year totalled EUR 0.8 million (PY net income: EUR 6.9 million). This represents a loss per share of EUR 0.02 for the third quarter and EUR 0.06 for the first nine months of Fiscal Year 2002. The figures for the first nine months for the first time reflect the results of Optomech GmbH, which was included in the scope of consolidation effective June 20, 2002. Based on the order backlog until the end of the reporting period and the significantly improved cost situation, Lambda Physik upholds its sales and earnings guidance.
