——————————————————————————–
– EBIT at EUR -2.8 million due to seasonal effects and weak advertising market
– 2003 sales according to plan, negative annual EBIT expected
– Non-operating charges in Q4
Cologne, 13 November 2003. In Q3 2003, the VIVA Media Group reported EBIT of EUR
-2.8 million (PY: EUR 0.2 million). After nine months, EBIT stood at EUR -2.6
million. In 2002 (EBIT: EUR 19.3 million), an extraordinary profit and loss
account effect of EUR 29.7 million was posted from the share disposal of VIVA
PLUS to Time Warner. In Q3, EBITDA amounted to EUR -0.8 million (PY: EUR 2.1
million), as a cumulative figure at EUR 3.3 million (PY: EUR 28.2 million).
Group sales in Q3 stood at EUR 21.3 million (PY: EUR 27.3 million), as a
cumulative figure EUR 71.5 million, compared with EUR 82.0 million in 2002.
The decisive factors for the negative development in the quarter were seasonal
effects at BRAINPOOL due to a longer summer break at “TV total” and the typical
invoicing procedures of TV production. Quarterly EBIT at BRAINPOOL came to EUR –
1.0 million (PY: EUR -0.6 million). After nine months, an EBIT of EUR 2.7 Mio.
(PY: EUR -9.0 million) was reported. The weak advertising environment and the
price adjustments had a negative impact in the music TV segment. EBIT in this
segment in Q3 thus stood at EUR -1.7 million (PY: EUR 0.8 million), as a
cumulative figure at EUR -5.1 million, after EBIT of EUR 28.7 million in 2002
(previous year influenced by VIVA PLUS share disposal).
After taxes and minority interests, the VIVA Media Group reported a loss of EUR
3.9 million after three quarters (PY: EUR 9.3 million). This corresponds to
earnings per share of EUR -0.16 (PY: EUR 0.38). As at 30 September, cash and
cash equivalents amounted to EUR 26.5 million and the equity ratio stood at
77.8%.
Despite positive EBIT in Q4, VIVA Media AG is expecting an EBIT loss for the
year, given annual sales at the level of the previous year. Moreover, the
company will consider non-operating charges in Q4. These will include goodwill
write-downs of foreign TV subsidiaries, the write-down of a deferred tax asset
and an accrual for the purchase price adjustment agreed with Time Warner for
VIVA PLUS.
