VIVA Media back into operating profits again in Q2
-EBIT of EUR 1.6 million in Q2
-Q2 sales at level of previous year
Cologne, 14 August 2003. In Q2 2003, the VIVA Media Group returned to operating
profitability, with an EBIT of EUR 1.6 million (PY: EUR 10.8 million). On a six-
month basis, EBIT was TEUR 147. In the previous year (EBIT: EUR 19.2 million),
non-recurring income of EUR 29.7 million was booked from the sale of the VIVA
Plus stake to AOL Time Warner. In Q2, EBITDA was of EUR 3.5 million posted (PY:
EUR 5.6 million). For HY1 the figures was EUR 4.2 million (PY: EUR 26.1
million).
In the quarter under review, consolidated sales reached the level of the
previous year of EUR 29.2 million. Due to poor Q1 sales, the HY1 sales figure
was EUR 50.2 million, down 8.2% year-on-year (HY1 2002: EUR 54.7 million).
Decisive for the positive development of earnings was the performance of the TV
production business at Brainpool. In Q2, an EBIT of EUR 2.6 million was
generated on sales of EUR 15.5 million. Viva-TVs national advertising revenues
were down on the previous year, despite a slight improvement to the end of Q2.
In Q2, the Viva TV National division posted sales of EUR 10.1 million, after EUR
11.5 million in the previous year. However, the structural measures implemented
meant that an almost balanced EBIT result of EUR 0.2 million was generated.
Music TV International generated sales of EUR 3.7 million, up 22.4% on the
previous year. EBIT in this segment was improved from EUR 1.8 million in the
previous year, to the current figure of EUR 0.7 million.
After taxes and minorities, the VIVA Media Group generated net result of EUR –
0.8 million (PY: EUR 11.0 million). This represents an earnings per share figure
of EUR -0.03 (PY: EUR 0.45.). As of 30 June, cash and cash equivalents totalled
EUR 28.0 million. The TV productions which have already been invoiced will
impact liquidity in Q3. At 80%, the equity ratio remains high. The number of
employees (full-time equivalents as at 06/30/2003) in the VIVA Media Group was
595 (PY: 714).
