The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Turnover slightly under last year / negative EBIT / new customer: Volkswagen AG Olching near Munich, 8 August 2002. Winter AG, the Neuer Markt-listed chip card manufacturer has turned over 20.5 million EUR according to its final results for the 2nd quarter 2002. This is slightly behind last year’s revenues of 20.7 million EUR. EBIT came in negatively at minus 1.2 million EUR – clearly under the second quarter of 2001 (1.5 million EUR). The earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to 44 thousand EUR (2001: 2.6 million EUR) in the first 6 months of 2002. The order book is very positive and amounted to 15 million EUR at the end of June 2002. Investments at Winter accounted for 1.3 million EUR in the 1st half year of 2002 (1st half year 2001: 1.0 million EUR). The negative earnings were especially influenced by enormous pricing pressure, which affects all business areas as well as continuing costs for an IT change- over. The first half-year was mainly affected by the production of bank cards. This resulted in stable turnover. The second half of the year will then bring in an improvement in earnings. Beside the banking division, the business of multifunctional cards is developing well. Winter AG succeeded in gaining Volkswagen AG as a new customer and will now supply itminus alongside BMW and Audi minus with intelligent cards. Against the background of a difficult market environment Winter AG had adjusted the planned figures for 2002 on 18 July 2002. For the year 2002 Winter AG adheres to its planned turnover of 48.6 million EUR. The firm anticipates an even EBIT (former plan: 2.8 million EUR).
