——————————————————————————–
Final numbers to 31 December 2001: Winter still profitable in 2001 / Revenue in
line with plan / EBIT correction / Budgeted figures for 2002: Revenue Euro 48,6
million / EBIT Euro 2,9 million
Winter AG, a leading supplier of systems and chip cards, continues to be
profitable according to its final numbers for fiscal 2001. Revenues of Euro
44.2 million exceeded a third quarter revision to budgeted revenue for 2001
(revised budget: Euro 43.0 million), whereas EBIT clearly fell short with Euro
0.8 million (planned: 3.2 million). In the Cards business division, 2001
revenues amounted to Euro 24.3 million, or 55% of total revenue (prior year:
Euro 28.8 million / 58.1%). The Card Services division achieved sales of Euro
19.1 million, or 43.2% of total revenue (prior year: Euro 20.6 million / 41.5%).
In the IT Security division Winter attained turnover of Euro 0.8 million in
2001, which meant 1.8% of total revenue (prior year: Euro 0.2/0.4%). Profit
after tax amounted to Euro 0.4 million in 2001 (prior year: Euro 2.7 million).
Earnings per share for 2001 were Euro 0.06 (prior year: Euro 0.59). The number
of employees in 2001 remained nearly constant at 325 (2000: 330 employees). The
main reasons for lower EBIT are partly narrower margins, higher personnel costs
following the introduction of a new EDP system, rising development costs and
increased costs for legal fees. At the end of the business year, an audit of
the system took place as part of the balance sheet preparation. The result was
that during the EDP system changeover, work-in-progress would need to be re-
valued. The rising need for intelligent, highly complex products enables us to
have an optimistic outlook for the new year. Winter AG see itself well-
positioned for 2002 through important projects won last year. Among these are
the establishment of a new Trust Centre as well as the acquisition of new
customers for the bank card area in Eastern Europe. The company additionally
expects clear growth in the Cards business division, thanks to the rotational
replacement bank cards (EC cards) in 2002. For 2002, Winter AG expects revenue
of Euro 48.6 million and EBIT of Euro 2.9 million. The final numbers may be
obtained from the annual report, which may be downloaded from: www.winter-
ag.com.
