The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Winter still profitable in fiscal 2001 / Revenues in line with plan / EBIT corrected Olching near Munich, 26th Februar 2002 Winter AG, a leading supplier of chipcards and systems, continues to work profitably according to its preliminary figures for fiscal 2001. Revenues of Euro 44.2 million (budget: Euro 43.0 million) were achieved in the third quarter. This was in line with the revised budget for fiscal 2001. EBIT, however, clearly fell short of plan at Euro 0.8 million (budget: Euro 3.2 million). The main reason for the lower EBIT figure is an inventory change, resulting from the introduction of a new EDP system. This system has been implemented in multiple stages by Winter since 1st January 2001. On 1st January 2001, the company began with the a new EDP-supported financial accounting changeover. The connection of logistics and production functions to the new system then followed, with completion at the end of June 2001. An examination within the scope of accounts’ preparation took place at the end of the fiscal year. At this point it was established that work-in-progress would need to be revalued. Further handling problems appeared during the introduction of the EDP system, which had to be corrected. This led to a noticeable change in inventory evaluation. EBIT was burdened by extra charges, in addition to the inventory change. These charges originated from additional unforeseen EDP implementation expenses, as well as from further provisions which had to be established for court fees. The final numbers and updated budget will be presented at a press conference on 19th March 2002.
