First half year 2003: Earnings further negativ / Restructuring measures take
hold
Olching near Munich, 07 August 2003. Prime Standard listed Chipcard manufacturer
Winter AG sold 14.9 million Euro in the first half year of 2003. Sales is
around 27 % below the previous year (20.5 million Euro). Reasons for this
decrease are lower demand and higher price pressure in the card services
division. The rotational change of bank cards in the cards division led to one
off higher sales last year, which could only be partly compensated. Sales of the
three divisions are split as follows: In the cards division a turnover of 7.4
million was reached (prior year 2002: 11.6 million Euro). The card services
division sold 6.8 million Euro to the first half year 2003 (prior year 2002:
8.3 million Euro). Sales in the IT-Security division increased from 0.6 million
Euro to 30 June 2002 to 0.7 Mio. Euro to 30 June 2003.
High price pressure and lower demand burdened the result. EBITDA amounts to
minus 1.1 million Euro to 30 June 2003 (0.0 million Euro in the prior year).
EBIT amounts to minus 2.3 million Euro (prior year: minus 0.7 million Euro).
Profit after tax to the 30 June 2003 amounts to minus 2.5 Mio. Euro (prior year:
minus 0.5 million Euro). However, restructuring measures take hold. The number
of staff decreased from 324 in the prior year by 15 Percent to 275 to 30 June
2003. In addition, production processes were clearly optimised.
Winter AG adheres to its earnings forecast of minus 2 million Euro and a
turnover of 37 million Euro by the end of this financial year. On the sales side
Winter AG expects positive catalysts in the second half year, especially in the
bank cards sector, as most manufactured cards in the first half of this year
will be delivered in the second half of 2003. For 2004 the company expects to be
profitable again.
