P R E S S R E L E A S E ACTAQUA: Prop Tech Germany Award and government plans for increasing energy efficiency underscore potential in the real estate industry Mannheim, April 20, 2022. ACTAQUA AG, a company that specializes in the digital transformation of the real estate industry, is experiencing additional tailwind for its PAUL digital control system from the German government’s plans to introduce new pricing of CO2 emissions in the real estate sector. The more climate-friendly a building is, the lower the costs for the landlord under the new regulation. This creates further incentive to carry out energy-efficient refurbishments. The new phased model provides for increasing landlord shares for the environmental tax, the higher the CO2 emissions of the properties are. In a worst case scenario, owners will then have to pay 90% of the CO2 tax. If, on the other hand, the property meets the highest energy standard, the landlord will no longer have to pay any CO2 costs. This is the exception, however: 95% of buildings currently have a low or very low energy standard. Demand for PAUL can benefit from this development in the future. The solution, which won the “Prop Tech Germany Award 2022,” enables significant savings in thermal energy and thus CO2 through the digitalization of building technology and optimized control via artificial intelligence. This applies to the large number of existing buildings in particular. PAUL Net Zero makes CO2 neutrality possible in this sector as well. “With PAUL, our innovative smart building platform for networked, digitally controlled building technology, we are not only meeting the needs of the times, but also making it possible to achieve the climate targets in the real estate industry. This is evidenced by the steadily increasing interest in the market and our rapidly growing business. Based on preliminary and unaudited figures, we succeeded in increasing our total operating performance by around 160% to just under EUR 13 million in fiscal year 2021, including an EBITDA margin of around 52%. The resolutions passed by the German government are yet another argument for the real estate industry to invest in the energy efficiency of existing buildings and confirm our pioneering business model,” said Sascha Müller, founder of ACTAQUA AG. The high relevance of a digitalized solution for increasing the energy efficiency of buildings was also recently highlighted by the presentation of the “Prop Tech Germany Award 2022” for PAUL. PAUL scored well in the category “Buildings and Energy Efficiency” and also won the overall award. The jury was convinced by PAUL’s creation of an open platform in which sensors, actuators, filter systems, heat pumps and solar energy can work together with the help of artificial intelligence and contribute to significant energy savings – without having to replace the old building technology.
