Alexium International Group Limited: ALEXIUM AND STEDFAST EXECUTE TEAMING AGREEMENT
Alexium International Group Limited / Key word(s): Alliance/Product Launch GREER S.C./U.S.A. and Quebeck/Canada. Alexium International Limited (ASX:AJX) and Stedfast, Inc. announce the execution of a teaming agreement to jointly compete for the Uniform Integrated Protection Ensemble (UIPE) program of the United States Department of Defence (US DoD) for a lightweight protective garment against CB (Chemical and Biological) warfare agents. The UIPE program is a fully funded and valued up to US$129 million The US Army RDECOM contracting office is currently in the process of soliciting proposals from industry. Stedfast is an 80 year old Canadian company and a leader in the manufacturing of highly specialized fabrics for use with multiple coating technologies. Stedfast has developed a range of fabrics for protective clothing in various professions and industries such as firefighters, Defence, police officers, surgeons, and linemen. Stedfast’s flexibility allows them to adapt their customer’s products to respond to the most extreme conditions like water, fire, wind, foul weather, cold weather, heat, moisture, and resistance to gas and chemical products. Stedfast has production facilities in the USA and Canada and their product range is sold and marketed throughout the world. This teaming agreement is based on prior development work performed by the US Army Natick Soldier System and Defence Threat Reduction Agency under the Integrated Protective Fabric System program. The Alexium/Stedfast team using Stedfast fabric and Alexium’s Reactive Surface Treatement coating technology (RST) have demonstrated superior CB protection performance, oil repellency, and breathability over current CB protection suits. The Alexium/Stedfast team is working with raw material suppliers and a garment manufacturer as prime contractors to supply the US DoD and will seek export licenses to supply other defence industry users. The garment is primarily designed for defence industry users in up-tempo environments, including special operations personnel. The lightweight CB garment will be suitable for wearing in combat operations with minimal impact on combat effectiveness, while reducing the thermal strain and the encumbrance of wearing conventional CB protective suits. Steve Ribich, CEO of Alexium noted that ‘the teaming agreement is based on combining two state of the art technologies and businesses to provide the best product to the defence industry and other markets.’ The new product will be commercially available in the next month and will be submitted into the UIPE solicitation. Alexium anticipates that the UIPE program will make a contract award and issue a delivery order this year to the successful tenderer, after conducting extensive evaluations. Rob Kellock, President of Stedfast, said that the unique capabilities of the Alexium RST technology and the capability of Stedfast’s fabrics made the combined garment a strong contender for the valuable UIPE contract. The UIPE program adds to the current JFIRE and JLIST programs at the US DoD in which Alexium is participating.
