Cereplast Expands Cereplast Hybrid Resins(R) Product Line
Cereplast Italia 11.04.2012 08:00 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduces New Categories of Bioplastic Resins With First-to-Market Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) Starch Hybrid Resin and Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) Starch Hybrid Resins EL SEGUNDO, Calif., 2012-04-11 08:00 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cereplast Italia, SpA, a subsidiary of Cereplast, Inc. (Nasdaq:CERP), a leading manufacturer of proprietary biobased, sustainable bioplastics, has expanded its Cereplast Hybrid Resins(R) product line to include Hybrid 106D, a high starch, high melt flow polypropylene (PP) starch compound, as well as two new categories of bioplastics with the first Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) starch hybrid resin, Hybrid 651D, as well as the first thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) starch hybrid resins, Hybrid 111D and Hybrid 112D. Cereplast Hybrid Resins products are proprietary biobased compounds containing a significant amount of renewable, ecologically sound sources such as industrial starches from corn, tapioca and potatoes, which are compounded on state-of-the-art mixing equipment. The reduction in petroleum-based plastic content compared to conventional plastics provides a significant carbon footprint reduction in the final product. Hybrid 106D is a proprietary formulation of high quality PP and industrial starch blend that offers a unique combination of mechanical properties, ease of processing, and a highly aesthetic surface. Designed to have an excellent balance between impact strength, rigidity, and processability, Hybrid 106D also provides a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional PP. Hybrid 106D can be processed on existing conventional electric and hydraulic reciprocating screw injection molding machines for the manufacture of consumer goods, furniture, toys, fashion accessories, packaging, automotive applications and more. Hybrid 651D is a proprietary formulation of EVA and starch, which provides a tough, soft touch, pliable material that is ideal for extrusions and soft injection moldable applications for the manufacture of consumer goods and packaging, footwear, handbags and other fashion accessories, as well as wire and cable insulation, soft plastic goods such as tubes and hoses and adhesion layers for multi-layer films. Hybrid 651D provides the desirable properties of conventional EVA, while also offering an environmental impact reduction like all of the Cereplast Hybrid Resins grades. Hybrid 111D and Hybrid 112D are thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) starch hybrid compounds for injection molding applications. Hybrid 111D boasts 30% starch and Hybrid 112D has 50% starch, which lowers the environmental impact of the material compared to conventional TPE. Both grades are soft and pliable, offering stretch with some recovery for soft grip applications such as handles for bicycles and tools, cosmetics packaging, housewares, household appliances, footwear and automotive applications. 'With their expansive properties and attractive environmental benefits, we believe that hybrids are the future of bioplastics. As such, we are committed to expanding our offering of Cereplast Hybrid Resins, and these new grades are the most recent innovations from our R&D team,' said Chairman and CEO of Cereplast, Mr. Frederic Scheer. 'The new Cereplast Hybrid Resins grades push the boundaries of hybrid resins by introducing new categories of bioplastics to the marketplace, which allows us to offer our customers a new range of properties for durable, eco-friendly materials. These new materials significantly lower the carbon footprint of the products without compromising performance.' About Cereplast, Inc. Cereplast, Inc. (Nasdaq:CERP) designs and manufactures proprietary biobased, sustainable bioplastics which are used as substitutes for traditional plastics in all major converting processes - such as injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding and extrusions - at a pricing structure that is competitive with traditional plastics. On the cutting-edge of biobased plastic material development, Cereplast now offers resins to meet a variety of customer demands. Cereplast Compostables(R) resins are ideally suited for single-use applications where high biobased content and compostability are advantageous, especially in the food service industry. Cereplast Sustainables(R) resins combine high biobased content with the durability and endurance of traditional plastic, making them ideal for applications in industries such as automotive, consumer electronics and packaging.
