Among those also present were numerous members of the Land parliament and the Bundestag, as well as representatives of Leinfelden-Echterdingen town council and the rural district council. The Humboldt-Carré – with an underground car park, five storeys and gross floor space of almost 13,500 m² – provides room for a maximum of 600 employees. The new location, like the previous one, is in the Echterdingen district and is just under half a kilometre as the crow files, or five minutes’ walk, from the current head office. The modern, spacious office building was designed by the renowned Böblingen-based architects Hanka & Nolte. The Humboldt-Carré was planned and built by Stuttgart-based Bülow AG, who will subsequently rent it out to the COR Group on a long-term lease. Building commences in January 2009 and COR is planning to relocate all its Echterdingen-based staff, as well as those working at COR Alldata Systems in Stuttgart, in mid-2010. In his welcoming speech, Ulrich Wörner, Chairman of COR AG, underlined the significance of the new building for his group: ‘We are creating the space we need for the further growth we are planning, we are bringing all the staff together under one roof in Stuttgart, and we will offer our employees an even better and more modern environment in which to work in the future.’ In her welcoming speech, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State Karin Roth expressed her delight about the decision to invest in the Humboldt-Carré and about the building’s blend of aesthetic charm and energy efficiency. She stressed that sustainable building was an export factor and showed what German engineering was capable of. The Mayor of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Roland Klenk, described the Humboldt-Carré as a landmark project which, in view of the economic situation as a whole, was making clear Leinfelden-Echterdingen’s outstanding position as a business location in the Stuttgart region. Eva Rometsch, a member of Bülow AG’s board of directors, expressed her conviction that the Humboldt-Carré would be a building with high-quality attributes for those using it and working in it. Its distinctive architecture was a conscious way of giving expression to COR’s success as a company. Similar points were made by Heinz Joachim Nolte, Chairman of Hanka Nolte Architekten HNP, who spoke of a polarizing design. The Humboldt-Carré was anything but a typical administrative building, and would instead embody a spirit of optimism.
