ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG: German company supplies emerging nations with affordable energy
ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG / Key word(s): Product Launch German company supplies emerging nations with affordable energy The micro power stations supplied by ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG generate decentral electricity, heating and cooling from biomass Dahlem-Schmidtheim/Düsseldorf. – ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG has developed a micro biomass generator which supplies up to 20 kW of electricity and a heating output of 50 to 60 kW. The generators will be applied within emerging countries to provide energy supplies on a decentral basis, with a small-scale series covering an initial 15 prototypes currently under production. These will gradually be installed in Nigeria from the beginning of 2015 as part of a major project. The ‘E3’ generator produces electricity, heating and cooling from biomass and waste materials which have previously gone unused, and generates these resources exactly where they are required. The advantage of this process is that both the thermal power and the electrical energy are not just more ecologically sustainable than power produced by conventional diesel generators or supplied by local network operators, but they are also much more favourably priced. For example, at around 10 Euro cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), electric power from the robust micro biomass power stations costs only a tenth of the electricity produced by diesel generators, ensuring that energy generated by this process is highly competitive compared to other conventional or renewable sources of power. The E3 produces generator gas from normed biomass pellets produced by ENTRADE itself. The raw materials for these pellets will be waste wood or bamboo, a fast-growing form of vegetation. The gas which is generated is purified using special filtering technology and is then burned. The generated electricity can then be used locally as a stand-alone operation or fed into the public grid, while the exhaust warmth is used for heating purposes or transformed into cooling. Establishment of an energy and waste management system in Nigeria The major contract placed by the Nigerian federal state of Imo covers the establishment of a state-wide energy and waste management system. During the first phase ENTRADE will set up 200 energy and recycling stations in Owerri, the state capital. This part of the project is to be completed by the end of 2015.
With a population of over 150 million Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation and at the same time its biggest economy. However, the country is in many cases dependent on diesel generators because of its under-developed infrastructure and a power grid which is susceptible to overloading and outages. As a result Nigeria has so far been unable to keep pace with the country’s rising demand for electricity, a supply gap which the E3 is intended to close in future. More information: www.entrade.de.
