ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG: Schloss Schmidtheim facilities generating electricity from wood rated as first class
ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG / Key word(s): Product Launch ENTRADE AG: Schloss Schmidtheim facilities generating electricity from wood rated as first class Dahlem/Schmidtheim. – During an on-site visit the three plants generating electricity from wood which are operated by Terrasystems GmbH at Schloss Schmidtheim (Schmidtheim castle) in the Eifel municipality of Dahlem have been inspected by representatives of the Arnsberg district government’s Mining and Energy department and classed as model installations. The feasibility study, planning and engineering of the installations were implemented by ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG. After the first plant for generating electricity from wood was installed in August 2013 Terrasystems GmbH put two further plants into operation at the end of last year, with an electrical output of 45 kW each. Thanks to the modular design of the overall plant an overall electrical output of up to 135 kW is achieved. The system runs in base-load operation and has a planned operating time of more than 5,100 operating hours per year. Turnkey plant in 40-foot containers – electrical power, heating or cooling The plant is fuelled by wood chippings produced from waste wood such as tree branches, especially those pruned from trees growing by the roadside. Apart from electrical power it is also possible to generate heating or cooling. In future the heating will be fed into a district heating network, while during the summer months an adsorption cooling unit can generate cooling for buildings. ‘The fact that these plants are fuelled by low-quality biomass for which there was no previous energetic use means that the electrical power receives an especially high price of over 20 ct/kWh’, states Julien Uhlig, CEO of ENTRADE AG. ‘The payment for heating which is fed into a district heating network is fixed at 3 ct/kWh.’ The small-scale plants produced by ENTRADE AG are highly robust and operate with solid bed gasification in the electrical output range from 30 to 45 kW. Within the compact container module the controls, drying unit, gasifier and CHP are integrated and closely coordinated so that the plant can be easily set up and put into operation at the intended location. The turnkey construction in 40-foot containers ensures great flexibility with regard to potential operational locations. As a financing partner ENTRADE AG invests in responsible and sustainably oriented energy supply concepts. With its various participations the company has become a leading supplier of energy concepts on the basis of solid biomass. More information is available at www.entrade.de.
