Espoo’s new Service Square to start in Iso Omena extension
DGAP-News: Citycon Oyj / 17.12.2013 / 12:00 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Iso Omena shopping centre's new extension building will house a new kind of Service Square for the City of Espoo, providing users with a joint service point. The Service Square will provide access to a number of social and health care services and Matinkylä Citizen's Office. The new premises will also house Iso Omena's Library, which will move from its current location to the extension to have some much-needed additional space. In May the City of Espoo signed a heads of terms for the leased approximately 6000 square meters and today the final lease agreement was signed. The idea behind the Square is to offer a one-stop-shop for a wide range of public services. It can be found on the third floor of the Iso Omena extension building, right above the metro station currently under construction. The premises will be accessible from the metro station, Matinkylä bus terminus and the shopping centre underground parking. 'According to the service network strategy of the city of Espoo, the city's services will be placed into the public transportation connection points, easily accessible for the customers and inhabitants. We are happy that the first Service Square, connecting different public services, is now agreed to be placed in Matinkylä centre', says Carl Slätis, CEO of the Premises Department of Espoo. 'Espoo's Service Square will greatly enhance the service mix offered at Iso Omena. Public services play an important part in turning the centre into a truly multifunctional 'indoor town'. In the future, shopping centres will keep bringing together both public and private services, such as restaurants, cinemas and gyms,' says Harri Holmström, Chief Operating Officer, Citycon. 'The service square is an interesting novelty that combines different services. It provides synergies for the customers and people that work at the premises, says Jukka Manninen, Unit Director, NCC Property Development. The Iso Omena extension project was launched in June 2013. The project will add almost 50 per cent to the current size of the shopping centre. When the new extension is completed, Iso Omena will provide approximately 75,000 square metres of leased premises and more than 200 different shops and services. The project is developed jointly by Citycon and NCC. The terminal station of the first phase of the western metro line and a feeder-traffic bus terminal will be located under the shopping centre.
