hep starts construction work on major project in Japan // Five US solar projects about to be connected to the grid
Güglingen, 22 November 2021 – hep’s successful international solar project development continues. Further important milestones were reached in Japan as well as in the USA.
Japanese solar project about to enter construction phase
The Forestry Committee has approved the implementation of a 13 megawatt peak (MWp) solar project in Chiba Prefecture in October 2021. Ground preparation is scheduled to begin this year. Grid connection is expected in the second quarter of 2023.
With the now eleventh park built by hep itself in Japan, the total installed capacity there increases from 27 MWp to 40 MWp. hep has been represented in the Land of the Rising Sun since 2013 and has two own offices in Kobe and Tokyo.
Five U.S. projects close to grid connection
In addition, the construction of the U.S. projects continues to progress. The first solar park was mechanically completed in July 2021. Four further solar parks followed in August 2021. Before the commercial commissioning, a test phase takes place in order to fully connect the solar parks to the grid.
Extensive portfolio of hep currently under construction in the United States
The portfolio of seven community solar projects was acquired by hep at an early stage of development in late 2020 and developed with project development partner Solops. Now, all seven projects are under construction. The plan is to complete three of them by the end of 2021. Completion of the remaining four solar parks is scheduled for early 2022. With around 21 MWp, this is the largest portfolio to date for which hep is carrying out project development and construction from a single source with its holistic approach.
The construction and subsequent operation of the seven projects will be carried out by hep Petra, a solar company in which hep has held a majority stake since July 2020.
