Swindells brings nearly 20 years of healthcare, technology and policy experience. Swindells most recently served as a group managing director of health at Tribal Group where he built one of the largest and most respected advisory and professional service businesses supporting healthcare provision in the UK. During his tenure at Tribal, the company's health revenue and profit more than doubled. Prior to leaving the National Health Service (NHS) to join Tribal in 2008, Swindells was director general for information and programme integration at the UK Department of Health, where he was credited for leading an influential review of NHS informatics. He was also the first Chief Information Officer for the NHS, sitting on the Management Board for the NHS in England. Swindells first came to the Department of Health in 2005 on secondment from the NHS to be senior policy advisor to the Secretary of State for Health. Prior to this he had worked in the Cabinet Office as a principal advisor to the Prime Minister's Office of Public Service Reform. Swindells has a wealth of front-line health sector management and leadership experience. Early in his career, he worked in procurement; then as head of information technology at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital and Trust; as the director for clinical services for Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital Trust; and ultimately, as chief executive of Royal Surrey County Hospital, which serves more than 1.2 million people in Guildford, England. In his more than two years as the chief executive, he led a dramatic turnaround, transforming a troubled 'zero star' hospital into one of the most efficient hospitals in England.
