Solarvalue pursues a new technological direction
Solarvalue AG / Strategic Company Decision Release of a Corporate News, transmitted by DGAP - a company of EquityStory AG. The issuer / publisher is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Berlin, July 1, 2009: Because of ongoing technical problems with the implementation of the manufacturing method from MB Scientific Corporation (test laboratory in the USA) for the production of solar-grade silicon and the resulting delays in the start of production, Solarvalue AG has decided not to continue the method at the Ruse site (Slovenia). Therefore, there was no longer a valid basis for cooperation with the Moser Baer Group. In June, 2009 the participation agreement with the Indian company Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Ltd. was thus terminated regarding Solarvalue Proizvodnja d.d.. New method in the test phase Claudia Boehringer, CEO of Solarvalue AG: 'This decision was not an easy one to make, and we have taken it after careful consideration. However, this was eventually the only way possible when considering cost aspects. We are still convinced that solar-grade silicon made from metallurgical-grade silicon continues to be a sustainable business model. So it remains our goal to produce solar-grade silicon by purifying metallurgical-grade silicon. For this purpose we will test a new method. The available funds are expected to last until a prototype is created.' The goal: cost effective solar grade silicon Dr. Christian Bornhauser, Board Member (COO) of Solarvalue AG: 'We are facing a completely new situation and a totally new challenge. The negative results from the evaluation of the process technology in the U.S. laboratory in the last few months and the simulation of the planned production process based on this as well as the current, significantly reduced silicon prices have made this step inevitable. As has been shown, essential changes in the process sequence and in the plant technology must be made to achieve the necessary purity while meeting adjusted cost targets. With the new production process, the goal is, of course, also to produce solar-grade silicon from metallurgical-grade silicon at long-term competitive costs. A separate laboratory facility is expected to show whether the targeted process will provide the expected purity and what production costs are to be expected. Concurrent feasibility studies at renowned equipment manufacturers will have to show whether the process can be used industrially.'
