TOM TAILOR brand grows by 3.7 percent in Q2 2019
– Revenue for TOM TAILOR brand rises by 3.7 percent to €145.1 million
– Gross profit margin for TOM TAILOR brand at 57.0 percent
– Revenue in Retail segment increases by 5.0 percent and Wholesale segment
grows by 2.5 percent
– Revenue in BONITA segment declines by 28.3 percent
Hamburg, 12 December 2019. As announced on 14 August 2019, the TOM TAILOR brand grew once again in the second quarter of 2019, with revenue increasing by 3.7 percent to €145.1 million (Q2 2018: €139.9 million). Both the Retail segment and the Wholesale segment contributed to this growth. The Retail segment achieved turnover of €73.1 million (+5.0 percent) and the Wholesale segment €72.0 million (+2.5 percent). At €82.8 million, gross profit for the TOM TAILOR brand was in the same order as the previous year, which registered at €83.8 million. This represents a gross profit margin of 57.0 percent (Q2 2018: 59.9 percent). With the application of accounting standard IFRS 16, reported EBITDA in the second quarter of 2019 was at €15.6 million, compared to €12.4 million in the previous year’s period (without application of IRFS 16: €4.8 million). Reported EBIT was at -€0.4 million (with application of IFRS 16) or -€1.5 million (without application of IFRS 16), compared to €4.8 million in the second quarter of 2018.
Revenue in the BONITA segment was at €49.9 million in the second quarter of 2019, compared to €69.6 million in the previous year’s quarter. Gross profit amounted to €33.8 million, compared to €50.4 million in the second quarter of 2018. This represents a gross profit margin of 67.7 percent, compared to 72.4 percent in the previous year’s quarter. With the application of IFRS 16, reported EBITDA was at €9.7 million (without application of IFRS 16: -€1.9 million) in the second quarter of 2019, compared to €10.3 million in the previous year’s period. Reported EBIT was at -€2.3 million (with application of IFRS 16) or -€3.1 million (without application of IFRS 16), compared to €8.4 million in the second quarter of 2018.
Overall, the TOM TAILOR Group closed the second quarter of 2019 with turnover of €195.1 million, 6.9 percent below the previous year’s figure of €209.5 million. This was due to the significant decline in revenue for the BONITA segment. Gross profit for the Group dropped to €116.6 million (Q2 2018: €134.2 million). The gross profit margin thus declined to 59.8 percent from 64.1 percent in the previous year. With the application of IFRS 16, reported EBITDA was at €25.3 million (without application of IFRS 16: €2.9 million), compared to €22.7 million in the previous year’s quarter. Reported EBIT was at -€2.8 million (with application of IFRS 16) or -€4.6 million (without application of IFRS 16), compared to €13.2 million in the second quarter of 2018.
